in case you missed it this morning I launched my Morning Prayer Show – an extension of the Badger Benson Show. You can find it at the same location as the regular program on BlogTalkRadio.com. The show page again is, http://www.blogtalkradio.com/badger-benson

Join me each morning at 6:30 AM Central for Morning Prayer. The shows will air every Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend episodes as well. Morning Prayer is exactly what it sounds like – 15-30 minutes of morning devotionals, Bible readings and prayers to start the day.

For a long time I’ve wanted to do something more faith based with the program. I felt that the timing was now right. Due to job changes I won’t be commenting on Nebraska politics as much. Plus I thought this would be a good way to keep myself accountable in my personal life in doing a morning Bible reading. I also wanted to start it at this time of the year, right before the holidays to enhance the meaning for my family. The inspiration for the program came from Glenn Beck. Not many know it, but Glenn hosted a Morning Prayer program on BlogTalkRadio.com during the 10 days leading up to the 8/28/10 Restoring Honor Rally. I loved what he did on that. I was disappointed that he didn’t keep it going. So I thought, why not do it myself?

The source material I’ll be using is the Portals of Prayer booklet by Concordia Publishing that is used by Missouri Synod Lutherans, but is quite applicable to Christianity in general. My intent is to approach it that way. I’m simply using that devotional book because it’s what I use daily anyway. Also the Bible readings will be from the American Patriot’s Bible which is a New King James Version with tid-bits about American history influenced by faith. I hope you’ll join me each morning for devotions and prayer!.

The Right Network has posted a story about the astrology behind the Star of Bethlehem that led the Magi to Jesus Christ. It’s an amazing read if you ask me! The study was done by Rick Larson of Bethlehemstar.net. Larson explains how intelligent the Magi were and what and why they would be gazing into the heavens and would have recognized the importance of what was happening the time of the birth of Christ. Very cool read, a bit long but worth the time on this Christmas season!

This week we start our series of holidays shows for 2010. We’re looking forward to this and hope that you’ll join us. We aim to take these next weeks and get away from politics and focus on this time of the year – The reason for the season. What we can be thankful for. The true story of Thanksgiving. The true story of Christmas. Along the way we’ll also have a lot of fun – exploring the secular aspects of the holidays that we all enjoy and love. Then we’ll close it all out over New Years week with a Year in Review and a New Years Eve celebration. Join us starting this Friday as we kick-off this special time of year!

I read a wonderful devotion yesterday. It referenced the Great Wall of China. When the people of ancient China were being invaded by barbarians they built the Great Wall to keep the intruders out. The wall being advanced for the time, and even still admired today for it’s amazing length, height and thickness built with ancient methods couldn’t be penetrated. But still in the first 100 years of the wall’s existence China was invaded three times.

How was that possible?

Unfortunately due to human weakness. See, all three times the enemy simply bribed someone at the wall to open a gate allowing the hordes to enter.

We can take a good lesson from this in our personal lives, as well as a nation. On a personal level we need to be prepared for Christ’s return, for he surely won’t ask to enter, and no wall will stop Him. We can also apply it in our daily lives to look out for ourselves and our families – as a reminder that we do live in a fallen world. I’m not suggesting to not trust people, but rather…don’t let your guard down.

As a country we can learn from this too, especially in light of the border dispute going on in Arizona recently. All the laws and walls in the world can help solve a crisis, but they can only do so much if the people living under them are not educated and moral individuals.

Remember to honor those and pray for the families of those who have fallen to protect all those in our borders this Memorial Day.
