My trip out west continues! Now on day number 5. I’m starting the day off in Idaho Falls and heading up to Yellowstone with my Dad and Grandfather. Last night we took in the amazing fireworks show here in Idaho Falls on the banks of the Snake River.
Also yesterday we visited Crater of the Moons. A very unique place to see. We enjoyed the different terrain and hiking up one of the large buttes and taking in the views.
The day before, July 3rd, we spent the day in Jackson, Wyoming and in Teton National Park. The gondola ride at Jackson Hole is amazing! Then we enjoyed a boat ride on Lake Jenny in the Teton’s and two bear sightings on the north end of the park, both within a mile of each other. I’m pretty sure the brown bear was a grizzly. Here’s some pictures:
Starting this Friday I will be retracing the miles I once did as a young kid in the summer of 1985. Back then I took a trip with my parents, sister, grandparents and uncle to go see my other uncle in Seattle, Washington. Along the way we made stops at Mount Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, Little Big Horn, Yellowstone, Mount Rainer, Mount Baker and many little stops in between.
Twenty-six years later I’ll get the chance to visit many of these same places. This time around I’ll be heading out with my dad, grandparents, and another grandpa. We’ll going to visit the same uncle, this time he’s living in Idaho Falls. Which Idaho Falls has one of the best 4th of July displays in the country. I’m looking forward to that. My mother is also flying in for the 4th of July celebration. She’ll then be returning to Iowa, along with my Roseland grandparents. The rest of the trip will be with my dad and Grandpa Benson.
This trip first time around was one of the events that really fueled my interest in history and geography, and really made feel connected to this country. I think seeing such sights at an early age really instills patriotism in a child. I know it did for me. I am so excited to finally retrace those steps.
Along the way I plan to give periodic updates or mini-shows from the road. Also there will be a few guest-hosts while I am away. It’ll be some great stuff! I hope you’ll join my guest hosts for those shows, as well as my special Rediscover The West Tour shows from the road.
It all starts this weekend! Happy Trails!
RightOnline Review Wednesday at 2 PM
Jon Bruning Interview Thursday at 8 AM
Last weekend I was at RightOnline in Minneapolis. It was an amazing experience! I took part in some great breakout sessions covering social media and important issues we’re currently facing. There was amazing speeches by Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Andrew Breitbart, Ann McElhinney, Tim Pawlenty among others.
After the session was over on Friday night, myself, Jeremy Jensen and Patrick Roy ventured over to the NetRoots conference going on across the street. Their session was over too and the only people around were security guards. To our surprise they had left a lot of their materials on tables. We quickly grabbed everything we could. We picked up some interesting material. Today, I’ll talk about what we found along with everything else from RightOnline with Jeremy Jensen, Patrick Roy and Taylor Gage. That show will air live at 2:00 PM.
Here’s one of the wonderful things we found at the friendly confines of NetRoots….Republican Voodoo dolls stuffed with shredded elephant crap. Seriously! Over the next week I’ll be posting some of the other crap we found at NetRoots at badgerbenson.com

NutRoots PooPoo Dolls
Join me, Jeremy, Patrick and Taylor Gage today at 2:00 PM as we talk about our experience at RightOnline and go through the material we took from NetRoots.
I also got to meet Andrew Breitbart and S.E. Cupp!

I am fortunate enough to be attending the RightOnline Conference in Minneapolis this weekend. RihgtOnline features all the best in social media and activism of the right. I’m looking forward to the sessions and learning how to be a better activist and improving my web site and show. Some great speakers are going to be there: Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty, Herman Cain, Michelle Malkin, Andrew Breitbart and S.E. Cupp amoung many others. It’s going to be a great time!
I’ll be covering it all, including a live show on the ride up talking to Nebraska and Iowa grass roots leaders about their expectations for the conference. I may try to get in one show while up there. Next week I’ll do a full review of my experience. I hope to see you there!
You can listen to the live bus show tomorrow morning right here:

Did you miss the show on Tuesday? It was great to catch up with Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning. Jon is running for the Republican nomination in the 2012 Nebraska Senate race. The winner of the Republican nomination will face Ben nelson. I think Jon has a great record. He was recently endorsed by the Tea Party Express. However, there was no endorsement by local Tea Party groups in Nebraska, including myself. You can listen to that press release from Nebraska Tea Party Leaders here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/badger-benson/2011/05/11/statement-from-neb-tea-parties-on-tpe-bruning-endorsement
It should be noted that I have not personally endorsed anyone in this race, and as a media outlet I likely will not. Obviously whoever our nominee is I will fully back. We have some great individuals in this race. I thought it was great of Jon to take time to address some of the Tea Party concerns. I hope the race continues to be a good one and in the end Nebraskans can unite to defeat Ben Nelson!
Also I went through the United States Flag Code, flag etiquette, and the history of flag day.
Hear it all http://www.blogtalkradio.com/badger-benson/2011/06/14/jon-bruning-for-senate-and-flag-day-message
Sometime next week I’ll re-air the interview by itself.
